Finished Bars

The Engineered Bar Products Division has the capacity to process 300,000 tons of bars annually in its 150,000-square-foot bar-finishing facility. 
 

Bar saw cutting

Nishijimax precision carbide rotary saws
  • Quantity: two
  • Capacity: 3/4" to 5.9" (up to 150 mm) diameter rounds or squares
  • Cut length: 1/2" to 118"
  • Standard-length tolerance: +/- .010" (Special-length tolerance +/- .002" per 18" of length)
Hem high-speed double-column band-saw line
  • Capacity: 4" through 9" round and squares as well as bundle cutting
  • Cut length: 6' to 24'
  • Accuracy: 0, + 1/4" (inquire for more precise length tolerances)
 

Bar straightening

  • Quantity: two straighteners
  • Capacity: 1" to 7" rounds
  • Straightness tolerance: 1/8" in 5'
 

Bar turning line

Hetran BPC-4000 bar-processing cell
  • Capacity: 1.031" to 4.250" incoming diameter (can hold ASTM A108 tolerances) capable of 1/8" stock removal per pass and 25-Ra maximum surface roughness
  • Bar length: 12' to 24'
  • Bar chamfering
  • Eddy-current surface inspection (MAC rotating probe)
 

Bar heat treating

  • Five Sauder Energy Systems
  • Car-bottom furnaces
  • 30,000-gallon quench tank with agitation
  • One high-temperature furnace up to 2,100° F with +/- 10° F
  • Four low-temperature furnaces up to 1,800° F with +/- 10° F
  • Maximum bar length: 35'
  • Diameter restriction: 1" to 12-1/2"
  • Quench and temper, anneal (LP, cold shear, and sphereodize), normalize, and stress relieve
 

Bar inspection

Small-bar inspection line
  • Capacity: 1" to 5"
  • Bar lengths: 15' to 45'
  • Bar straightening employing Bronx nine-roll bar-straightening machine (special straightness tolerance 1/8" in 5')
  • Bar chamfering
  • Bar surface inspection employing Forester magnetic flux leakage (100-percent coverage of surface with seam detection of 1 percent or 1/2 percent of bar diameter)
  • Bar ultrasonic inspection employing Magnetic Analysis Corp. rotary equipment (100-percent volumetric inspection using normal incidence and shear wave (capable of finding .040" wide defects)
  • 100-percent grade verification coil
Large-bar inspection line
  • Capacity: 3" to 9" rounds and 2-1/2" to 8" round-cornered squares
  • Bar lengths: 15' to 45'
  • Pangborn shot blaster for surface cleaning
  • 100-percent grade verification coil
  • Bar surface inspection employing Magnetic Analysis Corp. eddy-current surface inspection (rotary probe and circular coil)
  • Bar ultrasonic inspection employing Magnetic Analysis Corp. 48-channel ultrasonic flaw transducers in four fixed heads (capable of core testing to MIL-STD 2154 and Caterpillar 1E2122)
